Books like More Adventures Of The Famous Five

I’m going to start with the fact that I love the Famous Five and I always return to these books if I need something to switch off and read entirely for pleasure. And this compendium contains some of my favourites including Five go off in a Caravan and to Kirrin Island Again. Growing up I would always identify with George and wish I could have these fantastic adventures and my own island of course. However that being said, I’m not sure I would be happy reading these books to a primary class today based on the ingrained ideas of what constitutes a boy’s role and a girl’s role. The books are filled with these references that as an adult I can accept are of their time, yet I’m not sure a child could.
