Books like Just Jealous

Anne Cassidy has been one of my favourite authors from 12-13 years of age and each book that I read of hers brings back a warm nostalgia.Just jealous was a bit of an exception, possibly because it was the first time read possibly because the characters were just so unlikeable. Elly was verging on a narcissist and I didn’t really like the portrayal of the only black character in the entire book also being unfaithful, aggressive, into drugs, jealous, violent, and participating in gun crime in this little village in Norfolk. which just felt like it fell a little too much into a stereotype. I am in no way saying it was intentional and characters have to be of all personalities it just felt a little too much. The only other reason I didn’t enjoy Just Jealous was possibly the sheer amount of times that the words ‘ample breasts’ were written. It felt like every single female character bar a couple had there breasts described in detail. Otherwise I really enjoyed it, and found myself finishing in 2 hours.
