Julius Winsome
This is a difficult book for me to rate. I can't say it's "enjoyable" yet it is compelling. Also for me, I found it a little disturbing how easily I could identify with some things in the protagonist. While I don't share many of his traits, in a couple of ways I identified with him...a lot. There is a pivotal event in the book, the primary catalyst for climatic events is one with which I identify, quite a bit (though it didn't effect me quite as shatteringly as it did Julius). (view spoiler)[ For one I love dogs, and when I was a boy, I had a dog shot. It's one of those things that divides a life. There is my life before it happened and there is my life after it happened. I have never been the same. I moved more into myself, more away from people (including my family) after that. There is of course far more to this story, but I don't think this is the time (or place)to go into it... suffice it to say I loved that dog. I was 11. I came home one Sunday with my family to find blood smeared across the front porch where my dog was shot and dragged away. I was not really a "boy" after that. (hide spoiler)]
