I only just read the first volume so far, but I am ADDICTED. I absolutely love Courtney Crumrin. She’s not a people pleaser. In fact, as a general rule, she’d rather be on her own than surrounded by people. She’s led a pretty normal life so far, before she arrived to her Uncle’s house that is, a house that terrorizes as much as it mystifies.Strange creatures lurk in the dark. Courtney can sense something is amiss—something is watching her and waiting for her to do something—and she’s curious enough to find out. Turns out the house has more than one secret and her uncle about a dozen.This first volume contains four chapters and in each chapter Courtney Crumrin discovers more about the world she stepped in. She learns about the dangers roaming the house and the neighbourhood, and develops her own abilities. She meets a few people, but most of them fail to leave a positive impression on her—lots of characters seek to either trick her or kill her, so it’s hard for her spirits to be very high. But still she finds joy in spending time with her newfound uncle, and evading her parents.
