Bomb Queen Volume 1: Woman Of Mass Destruction
This comic was awful. I regret reading it, entirely. It was unfunny, uninspired and filled with lame attempts to shock. The gimmick is that Bomb Queen is a supervillain who runs unopposed in the city. The mayor is up for election and his opponent is threatening to remove Bomb Queen in any way he can. She takes offence and that's the entire story. The first pages offer some wonderful story-building and interesting mythos to Bomb Queen's history - there were originally other "queens" who turned hero and she took them out - and explain that the city has "Crime Zones", similar to the danger areas in Battle Royale in which crime is basically legal. This is all very interesting, but the storytellers focus on pedophilia, rape and incest jokes to remain edgy. Bomb Queen is a flat, flat character. She has no personality and has this perpetual shit-eating grin. She does not seem to get injured in battle and her skimpy clothes simply fall off when she is hurt. If this were a part of her powers or character - that she is invulnerable to everything, even her own explosives and the punches from superheroes - then that would make her interesting. Her only friend and ally seems to be a cat. That would be interesting. The fact that the rest of the city see her as the lesser of two evils is interesting. The artist and writer focus on dick and fart jokes. And boobs and butts. This is not a good comic and the majority of its failures lie on the fact that the genuinely exciting aspects of the story and character are ignored so that we can see a KKK member threaten to anally violate old women with impunity. Please, please, please, do not waste the twenty minutes it took me to read this nonsense. For real. Watch paint dry or something. That's far more enlightening than this rubbish.
