Alamat ng Gubat

2003Bob Ong

3/5

i really love how bob ong writes. there is meaning behind all the humor that he presents. and the way he tells a story is very casual. There are a lot of symbolisms in this one like: gubat=Philippines; Leon (who was abusive)= tax evaders, political clans, illegal vendors, etc.; hari=politicians (Bulag-bulagan, bingi-bingihan...they know the presnce of poverty but they do not do anything about it). There is also the presence of Filipino stereotype: matsing=smart, he was almost like Pilosopong Tasyo. It also reveals the problem in Philippines regarding elections wherein there is bribery, foul play(presence of the oppressive, and the voting of the people with no proper reason. True to the style of Bob Ong he reveals the point at the end of the book (tong:) that the Filipinos should aim for change and do something about it.and as usual I love the humor and the format of the story-it really was like telling a story to a kid with uncomplicated characters. simple but meaningful.IS BEING NOT BAD, BEING GOOD ALREADY?
