This was the last Anita Blake novel worth reading, primarily because of Edward. The rest of the series has been garbage (including Edwards' return. Seriously, what was his body count in the Harlequin, one? Maybe?). I don't have a problem with the sex, but Hamilton has sacrificed that literary device thingy called 'plot' in order to pack the pages with smut. Something happens, they have sex for five hundred pages, then the Ardeur snaps it's fingers and kills the badguy.In terms of characters it's obvious that Richard is Hamilton's personal dumping ground from everything she's ever felt about her ex-husband, turning the interesting power dynamic present in the first few books into something sad. Also, despite the legions of evil creatures (including the oldest and strongest vampires on the planet) that attack her at every turn, nobody close to Anita ever dies. Hamilton has stated that she loves her characters and will never kill them off, and that childish petulance combined with the almighty Ardeur robs her books of any sense of danger.Now Blood Noir is out, and though I will reserve judgment until I hear something more specific about it I'm not holding my breath expecting Hamilton to grow up again.

A dumb girl in love with both a vampire and a werewolf? This sounds slightly familiar...But, hey, this book was written first so I have a pretty good idea on who might have had the original idea.... (I'm smart like that.)I liked this book slightly better than the last one. Anita is still pretty annoying, but I can still appreciate a few things about her.\
  I crossed my arms on my stomach. A psychologist would have said I was closed off, uncommunicative. Fuck them.\
See, I like that!In this book, we have Anita trying to solve a case in which several shapeshifters have gone missing. She is also trying to figure out her relationship with Richard, a werewolf. Things get a little hairy with him.. (haha, hairy...see what I did there?) Strangely, for a girl who made a big statement about the fact that she won't date monsters, she is sure singing a different tune all of the sudden. I will go out on a limb here and say that humans dating animals is creepy. And, Richard definitely showed himself to be an animal in this book. His reaction to a very disturbing "snuff film" was equally disturbing.Hey, crabman!But, for some reason, that doesn't scare Anita off. And, now she has agreed to date Jean Claude, the vampire king, at the same time as her wolf-man. That is one scary threesome. Edward is becoming one of my favorite characters in this series. He is such a heartless mercenary, and yet he has a soft-spot for Anita. It cracked me up when he told Anita why he was following her:\
  "Following you around lets me kill a lot of people."\
That's very true, because as I have mentioned before, Anita has a big mouth and ends up having multiple attempts on her life in every book. Any bloodthirsty killer would love to follow her around and kill all of the people who are trying to kill her. He gets to look like a hero, all while fulfilling his murdery dreams. It's a win-win.I hope Edward will keep showing up in the next books, but I have a feeling that there might be a point where he gets hired to kill Anita. I will actually be on Team Edward at that point.

A man and his pre-teen son, who was born after the apocalypse, are currently on the road, their plan to walk to the coast and head south where the man hopes there will be a more hospitable environment in which to live. The man has taught his son that they are the "good people" who have fire in their hearts, which in combination largely means that they will not resort to cannibalism to survive. The man owns a pistol with two bullets remaining, which he will use for murder/suicide of him and his son if he feels that that is a better fate for them than life in the alternative. Food and fuel are for what everyone is looking. The man has taught his son to be suspect of everyone that they may meet, these strangers who, out of desperation, may not only try to steal what they have managed to scavenge for their own survival, but may kill them as food. Although life with his father in this world is all the boy has known, he may come to his own thoughts as to what it means holistically to be one of the good or one of the bad. Meanwhile, the man occasionally has thoughts to happier times with his wife/the boy's mother before the apocalypse, as well as not as happy times with her after the apocalypse and the reason she is no longer with them.

Set in a dystopian future, a group of people work in a facility, essentially as slaves. They do have an incentive though - a regular lottery is held and one of them gets to leave the facility and its restrictions and move to The Island, a paradise. Lincoln Six Echo is one of the workers in the facility and he is infatuated with Jordan Two Delta. His life is fairly uneventful and mundane until Jordan Two Delta gets selected to go to The Island. Then Lincoln starts to discover the truth about the facility and The Island.

In a violent, near-apocalyptic Detroit, evil corporation Omni Consumer Products wins a contract from the city government to privatize the police force. To test their crime-eradicating cyborgs, the company leads street cop Alex Murphy into an armed confrontation with crime lord Boddicker so they can use his body to support their untested RoboCop prototype. But when RoboCop learns of the company's nefarious plans, he turns on his masters.

Earth in the near future has become threatened by other dimensional beings called the NOVA. The only way to defeat these creatures has turned out to be by using genetically altered girls (Pandora's). They are paired up with boys (Limiters) who are granted the ability to undo the freezing effect cast by the NOVA, hence allowing the Pandora's to fight freely against them. Bridget is one such Pandora and is the best in her class, however due to her aphephobia does not have a limiter. Despite all the warnings, Kazuya Aoi decides to be her Limiter and friend.
