Ryuji Takasu lives in a falling down house with his mother, and although being a nice guy is cursed with the evil look of his father causing people to avoid him. Taiga Aisaka is a tiny,self centered and unexpectedly strong girl who lives in a new apartment next to Ryuji but has no idea how to take care of herself. Ryuji looks after her,cooking and cleaning for her and acting as her dog while they both attempt to help each other with their love life.

Houtarou is usually quite apathetic, however when his sister forces him to join the Classic Literature Club at Kamiyama High School, his worldview begins to change. Once there, he discovers some information regarding an incident surrounding one of the members' uncle. Together with Eru Chitanda, an always-curious girl, this unassertive boy delves deeper into this mystery.

It focuses on a high school freshman Yuuta Togashi, who once suffered from a 'chuunibyou syndrome' i.e. an overly self-conscious middle schooler. Now he wants to bury this embarrassing past of his and to begin a new life in high school-all in vain. He meets his old friend that knows about the old Yuuta and he now tries to get rid of that shameful part in his life. However, everything is not that easy as it might seem.

In an alternate world, a small percentage of children are able to manifest superpowers upon reaching puberty. Yuu Otosaka, a boy who awakens the ability to temporarily possess others, hopes to use his power to live an easy going high school life. However, he is caught red-handed by the mysterious Nao Tomori and is forced to transfer to Hoshinoumi Academy, where he and the other student council members must help students who have trouble controlling their abilities.
