THIS IS NOT  a unicorns-and-rainbows middle school book and I loved it for that. Finally, something where morals do not outweigh the plot. Finally, there's  evil characters who are truly evil  (and not merely misunderstood). Finally, a book where death actually exists and  poses a real threat. \

Darren is still reeling from the events of the last book. He must cope with becoming a bloodthirsty creature of the night. He doesn't want to kill, but is finding the impulse increasingly more difficult to resist. Meanwhile, he's becoming fast friends with a snake-boy (Evra Von), a human-boy (Sam Grest) and eco-activist (Reggie Veggie). I love Evra's personality  - his dry humour combined with his outlandish snakeboyness. I wish he played a larger role in the series. As with the first book, what first is a fun adventure, quickly turns onto a nightmare of both  physical and mental anguish.. P.s. If you read the books, I'd recommend waiting at least 2-3 years prior to watching the movie. The movie was based on the first and second book.   At last a book in this series with a conclusion!!!\
  I have to say this installment was 200+ pages of really great reading. I blew through it in no time at all. I really like Darren, his character is well written and I find myself very much relating to him. To be honest, I find myself reading the series primarily to see where things are going to go with this main character. This time the author did not disappoint. \
  I think I would have rather read one book with 600 pages than this and the last two 200 page books in this series with cliffhangers but I don't control that. I think the 600 page book would have been a easy 5 star read. But oh well.\
  So far, I think it's a great series for tweens and young teens. It's a quick easy read. They are entertaining. But the plot isn't complex enough to hold the interest of someone looking for something with some meat to it.\

 THIS IS NOT a whole bookIt's like someone ripped out the middle of the story and threw a cover around it. The beginning was pretty much non-existent (essentially, the "beginning" was book 8) and the ending was another big fat TO BE CONTINUED... How hard would it be to make these books a bit longer so we don't continuously run into this? And when they (view spoiler)[ offed Mr. Crepsley (hide spoiler)]

Book 11 of The Saga Of Darren Shan. Darren's going home. Back to where everything started. The town's changed a lot in the years that he's been away -- but then, so has Darren.Plagued by nightmares of what the future seems to hold, Darren feels uneasy revisiting the place where he was re-born as a child of the night, as though the universe (as though destiny) is plotting to throw something very nasty at him on the streets of his old home.

  I really enjoy Darren as a main character. It will be interesting to see where the other takes things as the story progresses. As with the other stories in the series, the book is well written, and has no ending. I'll have to read the next book in the series to continue the plot started in this book. Which is one of my biggest annoyances about this series. Why three 200 page books rather than one 600 page book?\
  It's so hard to rate a book when it's not finished. Did I like what I've read so far? Sure it was engaging and I want to pick up the next book so i can see what happens next. But I really shouldn't have to. I should be able to just turn the page and start the next chapter.\

Cirque du Freak (also known as Cirque du Freak: A Living Nightmare) is the first novel in The Saga of Darren Shan by Darren Shan (real name Darren O'Shaugnessy), published in January 2000. The story begins with Darren Shan and his best friend Steve "Leopard" Leonard visiting an illegal freak show where an encounter with a vampire and a deadly, unique spider forces them to make life-changing choices that neither of them could have ever thought possible.A feature film adaptation of the novel, directed by Paul Weitz and starring Chris Massoglia, John C. Reilly, Ken Watanabe, Josh Hutcherson and Willem Dafoe was released on October 23, 2009.Darren Shan starts narrating the story by saying he was always fascinated by spiders. When he was young, he used to bring spiders from the garden and let them loose in his house despite what his mum said about never bringing them in, and at the age of 9, he received the greatest gift of his life: a small tarantula. However, the joy of that gift was crushed when he, after watching a cartoon, killed the spider with a vacuum cleaner. He explains, "life, unlike a cartoon, is naturally evil, doesn't care about happy endings, and is always out to kill you. You just have to be careful." He also explains that everything written is true, except for the names.

  The hunt for the Vampaneze Lord continues.\
  Darren and his team of Vampaneze hunters return to Larten Crepsley's home town when they learn that murder victims with all the blood drained from them are piling up. Suddenly, an inspector shows up at their hotel wondering why, after they had enrolled Darren in school, he is not attending and that if he does not begin at once the police would have to get involved. So not only does Darren have to hunt vampaneze, he's got to finish his homework first. Then on top of everything else he has to deal with problems from his past.\
  Writing as always is quick and clean; definitely nothing fancy. The plot moved quickly with enough surprises to keep me interested. Even though this book ended with the dreaded "TO BE CONTINUED," it still had a great build to it's own climax. So in the end it left me with a satisfied feeling.\

But of course in real life, we only witness what happens to ourselves. Laurie Faria Stolarz takes the lives of ten teenagers who are all connected somehow, and shows how their lives can become so complicated in just one single day. There's Nicole Bouchard, who is tired of her reputation as being the good girl and wants to change that by acting on feelings that she has had for quite some time. It won't only shock people but can hurt her best friend, Kelly Pickerel, who is in California, not only to visit her father, but her convict friend, Robby Mardonia, the guy she has been writing to. She desperately wants to be with him even though she already has a boyfriend, Sean O'Connell. Sean, the guy who seems to be second-guessing all the choices he's made and now wants to change them. Then there's Maria Krito, who soon discovers that a best friend may not necessarily be someone who is willing to cut her, even though that's the only way for Sadie Dubinsky to finally become her friend. Sadie, the eleven-year-old who isn't the ideal size or weight or even the girl that her mother wants her to be, and the one that has to be constantly compared to her older, meaner sister, Ginger. Ginger Dubinsky, who has the chance to get back at Kelly for embarrassing her. There's also Derek LaPointe, who soon finds out that looks can't get him the girl he wants, Mearl Aremian. Her odd nature may not be for Derek, but it can help others figure out their lives. Last but not least there's Joy Ryder, a fifteen-year-old waitress who is sick of all the childish boys that she has to deal with, and will learn a dark secret when she tries to get back at the one boy who made her life miserable. Ten teens, ten stories full of complications and problems that will leave the reader wondering what happens to the lives around them. BLEED is a very entertaining read that is much different from the other works of Laurie Faria Stolarz. Its deep messages and risqué language will make the reader feel pain, sorrow, and happiness for the characters, which are all well-developed. Readers will be pulled into every story, even if they don't like the person the story is about. Stolarz does her best to capture the hidden feelings that are felt by the person themselves. As a warning, though, the language used is most definitely not suitable for kids in eighth-grade and below.
