I read The Fall of the House of Usher, William Wilson, and Hop Frog. All very interesting stories. I believe Edgar Allan Poe's purpose in writing these stories was to portray a strange array of madness brought through strange similarities. In The Fall of the House of Usher the narrator realizes when they are burying Madeline that she and Roderick are twins. They have that strange connection that makes Roderick realize his sister is not dead and that she is coming for him before everything crumbles. In William Wilson another person just like the narrator follows him around everywhere he goes until he finally snaps and kills them, only to find out he has killed himself. That one was the most intriguing due to it's sudden plot twist at the end. In Hop Frog although Hop Frog isn't exactly like Trippetta they are both dwarf size and it is because of what is done to her that Hop Frog snaps on the King and his royal court. The theme they all share is the madness the main character goes through due a traumatic event or because of someone close and very similar to them. Madness cannot only make a person mentally ill, but physically ill too. Roderick was affected greatly by his twin sister's death. Only to be traumatized even further by her later to the point of his death. The narrator William Wilson is so tired of competing with this other individual who is exactly like him and just wants to be unique and be the only William Wilson. The other William Wilson follows him wherever he goes and is his constant shadow, which drives the narrator mad and he ends up killing himself. Hop Frog is the only one out of these three that actually made it out of the story alive. He had a very heroic ending, but there was still death involved and madness of course.The stories were were written in a narrative style because of how everything happened in the stories. They had a chronological series of events that had a great climax and of course a resolution. They all had a very interesting way of unfolding that led to not only plot twists, but exciting yet terrifying events. This style is effective because reading the story and having it unfold before your eyes makes it a lot more interesting to read. Knowing what happens from beginning to end gives a great understanding to the underlying meaning of the stories also. In my opinion the stories were fantastic. They kept me intrigued and in suspense. I was just waiting to see what happened next. I have always been a huge Poe fan so they were right up my alley. I would definitely recommend these stories to any Poe fans or if people who like the Gothic Era of literature. I wouldn't really change anything about the stories because the way they are written and the elements that fall into place with them really give them that special something. Like always Poe does not disappoint.

Kagome Higurashi is a 15 year old schoolgirl who lives at a history-filled Japanese shrine. She is also the reincarnation of an ancient priestess named Kikyo, who guarded the sacred Shikon no Tama (Jewel of Four Souls), and who sealed away the half-demon Inuyasha who had tried to steal the jewel in order to become a full demon. Kikyo died of her wounds and had the jewel burned with her body. Kagome is one day pulled into the ancient well on her family's shrine and thrown into the past, 50 years after Kikyo's death. She befriends Kaede, the late Kikyo's sister, who realizes Kagome is Kikyo's reincarnation. They are attacked, and learn that Kagome has the Shikon no Tama, but it's actually inside her body! Kagome accidentally awakens the dog-demon Inuyasha, and frees him after the jewel has been ripped from her body. Now Inuyasha wants the jewel back, but Kagome can't let him have it. He is forced (by Kaede's magic) to wear a necklace that allows Kagome to control him with one word, "Sit!", which sends him face-first into the ground. Kagome accidentally shatters the jewel, and now she and Inuyasha have to work together to find all the pieces before they fall into the wrong hands. Only Kagome can "sense" where the shards are, and only Inuyasha is powerful enough to get them from the demons or people who have them. But can they stop fighting long enough to work together?

The Addams Family is not your typical family: it takes delight in most of the things of which normal people would be terrified. Ben also finds himself disturbed by cryptic and prophetic dreams, which he shares with a Methodist preacher in California, Brother Justin Crowe. Brother Justin, convinced by his dreams he is following God's will, has begun to practice his own extraordinary talents, although the preacher's plans increasingly lead to disturbing and tragic consequences. In this "last great age of magic," Ben Hawkins and Justin Crowe are moving toward a great conflict between Good and Evil, although it not yet clear on which sides these men will stand.

Meet Georgia Lass (who prefers to be called George). She is a young Seattle college dropout who is unhappy with life. She is always at odds with her mom, Joy. Ahiru (literally 'Duck' in Japanese), is a young girl in a junior high school's beginner ballet program. She's prone to stammering and clutziness. She has a huge crush on her senpai, Mytho, a melancholy young man who doesn't speak much. Ahiru discovers that Mytho is actually the prince out of a story written by the mysterious Drosselmeyer. When Drosselmeyer died, the prince and the evil crow that were battling in his novel escaped. The prince defeated the crow, but only at the expense of shattering his own heart. Mytho is a boy without feeling or understanding. Drosselmeyer, however, has somehow returned, and has offered Ahiru a chance to help Mytho. She must become Princess Tutu, a magical ballerina, and help reclaim the pieces of her prince's heart. There is a catch, of course--Mytho is being controlled by his roommate Fakir, also a dancer, who seems to want to keep the boy soulless and heartless. Drosselmeyer also told Ahiru that a certain dream she's been having is real. She really is just a little duck, and has been transformed into a girl only so that she can become Princess Tutu. If she starts stammering-- quacking like a duck-- she'll turn back into one.

Two brothers lose their mother to an incurable disease. With the power of "alchemy", they use taboo knowledge to resurrect her. The process fails, and as a toll for using this type of alchemy, the older brother, Edward Elric loses his left leg while the younger brother, Alphonse Elric loses his entire body. To save his brother, Edward sacrifices his right arm and is able to affix his brother's soul to a suit of armor. With the help of a family friend, Edward receives metal limbs - "automail" - to replace his lost ones. With that, Edward vows to search for the Philosopher's Stone to return the brothers to their original bodies, even if it means becoming a "State Alchemist", one who uses his/her alchemy for the military.

The Elric brothers' mother is dead and their father has long since abandoned them. Deciding to perform a forbidden human transmutation to bring their mother back, they end up losing their bodies. Now Edward must join the military in order to gain certain alchemical privileges, with his one goal being to restore his brother to his original state. But with war on the horizon it's only a matter of time before they are both forced to question their morals and ultimately decide the value of human life.

Medical student Liv Moore gets invited in a party that turns into a macabre zombie arena. Liv wakes up from the dead and becomes a zombie. To maintain her humanity she must eat human brains so she starts to work in the coroner's officer to access brains. Eating a brain gives her that person's traits and memories, so she helps Detective Clive Babineaux solve the murder as a psychic.
