Alan Mikhail is a historian whose work focuses on the Ottoman Empire. He is a professor of history at Yale University.
Mikhail received his PhD from the University of California, Berkeley, in 2008. After two years as a member of the Andrew W. Mellon Fellowship of Scholars in the Humanities at Stanford, he became assistant professor of history at Yale in 2010. In 2013, he became full professor, and in 2018 chair of the Yale history department. In 2018, he received the Anneliese Maier Research Award of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation for internationally distinguished humanities scholars and social scientists. He is widely regarded for his work in Ottoman and global history and credited as one of the founders of Middle East environmental history.
