The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall is an open-world action role-playing video game published and developed by Bethesda Softworks. The second game in the Elder Scrolls series, following 1994's The Elder Scrolls: Arena, it was released on September 20, 1996. It was both a critical and commercial success on launch. A successor, The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, was released in 2002.

As a way to commemorate the fifteenth anniversary of The Elder Scrolls franchise, the game was made free to download on Bethesda's website on July 9, 2009.

Daggerfall, like the other games in The Elder Scrolls series, takes place on the fictional continent of Tamriel, in which the player can travel between the provinces of High Rock and Hammerfell. Like all The Elder Scrolls games, the player doesn't have to follow questlines or fill specific character roles, allowing the player to play the game how they see fit.
