Books like Tom Clancy: Two Complete Novels (Red Storm Rising & The Cardinal of the Kremlin)

In Red Storm Rising, it seemed that Clancy loved to describe *every* detail in every situation. At first this was ok, but toward the end of the book I got the feeling he was just trying to fluff his word count. He had too many characters going in too many directions it made following each one a chore rather than a joy.The Cardinal of the Kremlin was by far a better read, more of what I've come to expect from Clancy. The characters were well defined and I wanted to know more about each one. (unlike Red Storm where I lost focus)
