The Wisdom of My Grandmothers. by Adriana Trigiani

I have read most of Adriana Trigiani’s books and noted the comparisons in our lives so I was interested to read about her grand-mothers. We are not too far apart in age, and although I am British Italian and she is American Italian a lot of our experiences are similar. I also had a grand-mother Lucia who came to live in Jersey from Italy after the war and she was a huge influence in my life until she died at 90. Never a day goes by when I don’t either think or say “my nonna would have said...” My other grandmother Giuditta did not leave Italy but in her very quiet way also influenced my values. She was a gentle, softly-spoken lady who was a seamstress and made me many clothes when I was young. My mother left Italy at 14, and she in turn has been a great influence on all her grand-children. My biggest hope is that my four grand-daughters will think of me half as fondly. The book was poignant but full of pearls of wisdom on all aspects of life, and death.
