The Crossroads Cafe

Deborah Smith

I will round it up to three but it was really only a 2.5 for me ...I honestly don't think I am a cynical person (I have my moments, I guess) but when I read a book that most reviewers love and find inspiring and I just feel nothing for it ... yes, I do feel like a cynical cow! I had been googling "authors like SEP" and this author popped up a few times = first mistake - there is NO author like SEP. She is unique. That is why I love her books and why I re-read and re-listen to them over and over again ... so I think my expectations were a little high before I started this one. Anyway, I nearly gave up on it. Didn't really care about either character even though they had some horrible things happen in their lives. It just all ended up nice and peachy. Bit too sweet in the end for me!! And to all my "Southern" friends ... jeez, the description of your food does nothing for me! There I go, insulting my nice Southern friends along the way... yep, cynical and cruel, that is me!!! For 2020, I shall try to be less cynical!!I did actually visit a "Crossroads Café" on my travels in the USA but it was not in North Carolina ... it was in the Joshua Tree ... well worth a visit. Especially if you are into music as it is the place where Gram Parson perished! Not in the actual café, but quite near it!!!
