Sociology

2006Anthony Giddens

4.5/5

Anthony Giddens is the main man in the modern world of sociology, who has created a master peace of theoretical thinking regarding social interaction, organisations and networks from education to environmental cities and urban spaces. My particular favourite was Crime & Deviance. It is a book you will refer to time and time again, and it always has the answer. One point I would like to make though that the majority of the observations that Giddons has made is from the 4 walls of his office, so leads me to believe that he is not writing this on his own. It is a bit like when you get use to completing a crossword in your favourite daily paper, and when the compiler goes on holiday and hands over to a newcomer, you find you struggle to even answer just a few questions. The book does not gel, but do not let this deter you from reading it, as you will not only be educated, enlightened and amused throughout, but will be very reluctant to put it down.
