Dali by Dali
The combination of books linked to this page is such a mess (this is also true of Amazon’s page). There are books combined here that AREN'T different editions of the same book; they’re different books entirely. This review is for the large, coffee table book that was published by Abrams in 1968 (presumed first edition), edited by Max Gérard, translated by Eleanor R. Morse, and manufactured in France. It has the gold foil dust jacket and the painted, cloth-covered boards. This book is roughly 12” square and about 1.5” thick. It’s similar to Dali Wines of Gala. Wines of Gala is actually smaller.Dalí’s work is divided by theme in this book. Chapters include “War,” “Landscape,” “Gala,” “Nature Morte (Still Life),” “Eroticism,” “Mysticism,” “Space-Time,” “Oneiros,” and “Toward an Imperial Classicism.” There is also a chronological index and a biography. Whole works and details are depicted in color and black and white. These images are interspersed with Dalí’s writings. Anyone who appreciates Dalí’s work will enjoy this book.
