On the inside page of the backside cover, there is a peek at the next book in the series with a brief description of the story. Geronimo Stilton says,"Thanks for reading, and farewell till the next book."Series should have the same reading level and length, and cover to continue the comfort and familiarity found in the series: The reading level and length of stories are generally the same in the 65 or more Geronimo Stilton books. The style including pictures, bolded words in fun fonts and varied text features that children love also remain a constant. In what ways and how well does the book as a whole serve its intended audience?: The style of this book serves its intended audience well. The color, the pictures, the bolded words, all add a layer of excitement to reading and introduces new vocabulary in an accessible way. The vocabulary and sentence structure would be appropriate for intended audience as well. However, this book was disappointing in terms of the content. I wouldn’t recommend this book to my younger readers for the following reasons. The stereotypes would not stop throughout the book. The girl rats have flirty eyelashes and their eyes are pointed up like they have makeup on. Ratna, a main character had an overall flirty and delicate attitude but Geronimo was expected to act courageous, bold and daring. At the end of the book Ratna says, “Because of you, I have felt so safe and secure these past few weeks,” which is the typical portrayal of delicate women needing protecting by men. On top of the incessant gender stereotyping, the topic of the book was about India, and the author portrayed India in a stereotypical way with Bollywood culture being centered upon. The book did include accurate information about India as well, and a map which was nice to see and surely added to the spread of content throughout the book.
